Israel has signed an agreement to supply Finland with the David’s Sling anti-missile defense system worth 317 million euros, the Israeli Defense Ministry said on Sunday, DPA and Agerpres reported.

The “David’s Sling” system is used to intercept medium- and long-range missiles.

This system was jointly developed by the Israeli Ministry of Defense, the US Department of Defense and the manufacturer Rafael Advanced Defense Systems.

Finland and Sweden have decided to apply for NATO membership after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

Finland was admitted to NATO on April 4 this year, becoming the 31st member of the North Atlantic Alliance.

“David’s Sling” together with “Iron Dome”, “Arrow-2” and “Arrow-3” form the Israeli echeloned air defense system.

Unlike the Iron Dome, which is mobile, the Sling of David is stationary and can protect all of Israel from its permanent location, according to the Israeli military’s website.

In July 2023, Israel announced that it had successfully completed tests of an advanced missile defense system, shortly after the system was successfully put into service, The Times of Israel reported.

The Israeli Defense Ministry said in a press release that “the David’s Sling system has successfully completed a series of tests two months after the first successful operational interception during Operation Shield and Arrow” and called it “an important milestone.”

“The existing capabilities of the system were tested in a series of complex scenarios that prove the capabilities of the system during a conflict,” the Israeli Defense Ministry said.

In May, the David Sling system successfully intercepted a rocket fired at Tel Aviv by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement and one aimed at Jerusalem.
