Croatian Defense Minister Mario Banozic was seriously injured Saturday in a road accident that left one person dead, the ministry said, according to AFP, News.ro reports.
“A traffic accident occurred between the Minister of Defense, who was in his private car, and the driver of a van. The driver of the van died,” the agency said in a statement.
According to the same source, the accident occurred on the outskirts of Vinkovci, 276 kilometers east of the capital Zagreb.
Mario Banozic suffered serious head injuries and was taken to a hospital in Osijek, government spokesman Marko Milic said, adding that his life was not in danger.
Mario Banozic, who was born in 1979, has been the Minister of Defense since 2020.
