
Defending champions Switzerland were eliminated from the finals of the Billie Jean King Cup (formerly FedCup) in the group stage after losing 0-3 to the USA. Italy and Canada qualified for the semi-finals of the competition.

The 18-time US champions won 3-0 in Switzerland in a Group A clash.
Danielle Collins beat Celine Naef (18), 7-6(4), 6-1, and Sofia Kenin outlasted Viktoria Golubic, 6-3, 6-7(1), 7-5, after a two-hour, 54-minute marathon match.
Finally, the USA also won the doubles match, which was simply a record.
Italy (four-time champion) and Canada secured their place in the semi-finals of the competition by beating Germany (3-0) and Poland (3-0) respectively.
Italy last won the tournament in 2013, while Canada only made one semi-final appearance in 1988.
