Almost two-thirds of Romanians say they are very, very worried about the consequences that the Israel-Hamas war could have on Romania, with increased terrorist threats being the biggest fear.

When asked which of the two wars worries them more, between Ukraine and Russia or between Israel and Hamas, almost 50% pointed to the conflict in Ukraine, according to a survey conducted by INSCOP on behalf of News.ro.

INSCOP: Two-thirds of Romanians are worried about a war between Hamas and Israel

66.1% of Romanians say they are very, very much worried about the consequences that a war between Israel and Hamas could have on Romania, while 31.9% say they are quite a little, very little, or not at all worried. 1.9% do not know or do not answer this question.

“Women, people over 60 years old, people with primary education, passively inactive, residents of big cities, people with low incomes are the population categories that are most concerned about the consequences of the war between Israel and Hamas on Romania. . Men, young people, people with higher education, residents of Bucharest, those with higher incomes, as a rule, are less concerned about the consequences of this war for Romania than the rest of the population,” the socio-demographic analysis shows.

42.3% of those who expressed concern about the war between Israel and Hamas (very much, fairly much, or not at all worried – 78.5% of the total sample) call the growth of terrorist threats their biggest fear. 19.9% ​​note an increase in fuel prices, and 14.8% – an increase in the number of refugees. The proportion of non-responses is 1.8%.

According to the socio-demographic analysis, the increase in terrorist threats is the biggest fear, especially for women, people with higher education, white-collar workers and residents of Bucharest. People over 60, who are passively inactive, most often cite rising fuel prices as their biggest fear of a war between Israel and Hamas. People in their 30s and 40s and residents of small towns are most afraid of an increase in the number of refugees.

Asked which of the two conflicts worries them more, between Ukraine and Russia or between Israel and Hamas, 49% said the conflict between Ukraine and Russia and 29% between Israel and Hamas. 15.9% claim that they are equally concerned about both conflicts. The share of non-responses is 6% of the total sample.

“Men, persons under the age of 45, residents of the eastern regions more often than the rest of the population state that they are more concerned about the conflict between Ukraine and Russia than between Israel and Hamas. The conflict between Israel and Hamas worries them more: women, passive people, residents of the western regions,” says the socio-demographic analysis.

“The war between Israel and Hamas has greatly affected Romanians, with two-thirds saying they are very worried or very worried about its consequences for Romania. The biggest fear concerns terrorist threats. On the other hand, the war in Ukraine, although not at the top of the media agenda, causes much more concern than the conflict between Israel and Hamas, explaining this both by the proximity of the conflict and by the economic and social consequences that have already been felt in the last year and a half. , – explains Remus Stefureak, director of INSCOP Research.

  • The survey was conducted by INSCOP Research on behalf of News.ro. The data were collected from October 23 to November 2 using the CATI method (telephone interviews), using a questionnaire. The size of the simple stratified sample is 1100 people, representative of significant socio-demographic categories (gender, age, profession) for the non-institutionalized population of Romania aged 18 and over. The maximum permissible data error is ± 3% with a confidence level of 95%.
