President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that his people deserve to be in the European Union together with other free nations. “We already understand what further steps are necessary to move forward after the decision of the European Council and approach the key goal of our country’s accession to the EU,” he said.

Volodymyr Zelenskyi, in an address sent on Wednesday evening, said that it was a day that will certainly be remembered in the history of Ukraine, News.ro reports.

“This is a positive signal from the European Commission – a recommendation to start negotiations on our country’s accession to the EU. This is exactly the solution I was waiting for. I thank you, Ursula, Madam President of the European Commission, and all your colleagues for always having unwavering and sincere faith in Ukraine. Our people deserve to be in the European Union – together with all the free peoples of Europe,” he said.

According to him, the December decision of the European Council is expected, but Ukraine is fulfilling its part.

“Of course, we already understand what further steps are necessary to move forward after the decision of the European Council and approach the key goal – the accession of our country to the EU. Ukrainian freedom, Ukrainian institutions, our common European home will only become stronger,” the Ukrainian president said.

He noted that there have already been meetings with representatives of the Ukrainian government and parliament regarding draft laws and reforms that represent the transformation of the country. “And I hope that the European Commission will start performing its part of the joint work as soon as possible – the assessment of the compliance of Ukrainian legislation with the EU acquis,” he added.

“For Ukraine and all of Europe, it is important that Moldova is as successful and stable as possible”

Zelensky noted that he discussed with the President of the Republic of Moldova Maya Sandu with whom Ukraine will coordinate its steps on the way to the European Union.

“For Ukraine and for all of Europe, it is important that Moldova is as successful and stable as possible. We will help,” he said, noting that Ukraine has already helped evacuate 36 Moldovan citizens from the Gaza Strip. More than 40 citizens of Ukraine were also rescued.

Volodymyr Zelenskyi also showed that he spoke with the president of Georgia and that Ukraine sincerely supports the independence of this country. “In a conversation with the President of Georgia, I spoke about Ukrainian citizen Mykhailo Saakashvili. His life is important, and it would be right to sympathize with his fate,” he added.

In addition, regarding the EU, Zelenskyi showed that he signed a decree that prepares the negotiation process, mentioning clear points and instructions.
