I am afraid of the new paradigm of modern Romania in 4-5 years, when we will make the transition from traditional Romania, said Daniel David, Rector of Babes Bolyai University (UBB) in Cluj.

*Traditional in the sense of collectivist and with a concentration of power.

“We will have people who will have a psycho-cultural profile of decentralization of power and autonomy, more similar to the Western space. I don’t know if these people will necessarily be better professionals or behave more ethically than those in the old paradigm. On the contrary, I have a question mark,” says David.

When you enter the new paradigm of modern psychology, he argues, the key element has to do with emancipation.

“Now we are in the phase of emancipation. Emancipation happens both for common sense and for stupidity, arrogance and aggression,” the rector explains.

According to him, when you are in the emancipation phase, you begin to believe that your thought becomes knowledge.

“People no longer know how to shut up, when they should shut up and listen to experts. When you have a question, people don’t know how to put it in question form, but very often they put it in sentence form: that’s my point of view,” explained Daniel David.

  • “Sure, you can have perspective, but do you really need to express your own view on whether force or acceleration is equal? Now you think you need to add another epsilon. I understand, but is it necessary if you believe in it?”

“I doubt we will ever be able to have an educated opinion on a large scale. An emancipated person wants to have his opinion. Our education looks bad. Because it looks silly, thoughts are not cultivated. Because they are ignorant, they create a lot of problems. The problems affect the basis of democracy,” the rector of UBB also noted.
