Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is analyzing the “advantages and disadvantages” of holding presidential elections next spring, his foreign minister said on Friday, Reuters reports.
“We are not closing this chapter. The President of Ukraine analyzes and weighs all the pros and cons, Dmytro Kuleba said at the press conference.
Holding elections during a war with Russia would cause “unprecedented” challenges, he added.
As a rule, presidential elections in Ukraine should be held next spring, but current legislation does not allow them to be held during martial law.
A poll released this week by the International Republican Institute (IRI) shows that only 20% of Ukrainians believe that presidential elections should be held now, despite the war, while 39% said the same about parliamentary elections and 15% want local elections . , Kyiv Post reports.
Among the respondents, 19% are against any elections due to the current situation.
