​​Crin Halaicu was the mayor of Bucharest in the period 1992-1996, representing the Romanian Democratic Convention in the elections. After completing his term as mayor, Halaiku retired from public life, devoting himself to business, especially real estate. A brief return to politics was recorded in the period 2009-2012, when Halaiku was the speaker of the specialized committees of PNL Bucharest.

Halaiku, 71, has recently been in trouble with the law after being sued by a commercial company from which he rented an oxygen concentrator during the pandemic.
