Four Katyusha missiles were launched on Monday in the direction of the Iraqi Ain al-Asad Air Base, where US forces and other international forces are stationed in western Iraq, security sources quoted by Reuters reported, writes News.ro.

It was not immediately clear whether the attack caused casualties or damage, but two military officials said the missiles may have landed far from the base.

The rockets were fired from the desert about 25 kilometers north of the base, and Iraqi security forces launched a search for the attackers, two security sources said.

Since the conflict began in Israel on October 7, attacks on US troops have increased, and Iraqi armed groups allied with Iran have threatened to attack US interests with missiles and drones if Washington intervenes to support Israel against Hamas in Gaza.

There have been 23 drone or missile attacks in the past two weeks

US and allied forces in Iraq and Syria have been targeted by 23 drone or missile attacks in the past two weeks, a senior US defense official said on Monday.

“Between October 17 and 30, US and coalition forces were attacked at least 14 times in Iraq and 9 times in Syria,” said a US official quoted by AFP.

Those attacks were carried out by both drones and missiles, and “most failed to hit the target due to our robust defenses,” he added.

Washington accuses Tehran of involvement in these attacks through intermediaries.
