The resolution to cut budget spending, passed last week, is a serious government intervention in local autonomy, Mayor-General Nikushor Dan said on Monday. He says he understands the need to cut costs, but believes local governments should be left to choose where to cut.
“This order should not have been issued in the form in which it was given, because it is a serious interference by the Government in local self-government. If it’s such a hopeless situation, we should have been given a margin, our broken quotas should be reduced or something like that, and we should leave, within that amount, what we should do and what we shouldn’t do,” Nikushor Dan explained. .
The mayor also gave an example of how the provisions of the order affect the work on strengthening the Grant Bridge.
“The order affects jobs. It is for this investment work that the order says that we have to pay for November and December on average for January-September. There was no invoice for this work in January-September, only 1 million lei in October and an invoice of 9 million lei. Therefore, since we do not have payments for January-September, we will not pay according to the Decree. The money is in the account, and everyone knows that we are serious, we will pay as soon as the budget for the next year is approved,” Nikushor Dan explained.
