The people who stormed the airport are believed to be supporters of Palestine, who condemn Israel’s actions in the Gaza Strip. Footage shows hundreds of people running through the airport, with some reportedly shouting “Allahu Akbar”.

One video shows several people surrounding a police car and pushing it. Protesters even managed to get onto the runway of the airport.

The police from Dagestan blocked the entrances to the airport, even the National Guard would have been sent to the scene.

Israel’s reaction

Israel’s foreign ministry called on Russian authorities to protect Israelis after reports that demonstrators stormed the runway to protest the landing of an airliner departing from Tel Aviv.

The statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jerusalem states that Israel’s ambassador to Moscow is cooperating with the Russian authorities.

“The State of Israel takes seriously attempts to harm Israeli citizens and Jews around the world,” the Israeli ministry said.
