35 people died and at least 53 were injured in a chain accident in Egypt that happened between Cairo and Alexandria, state media reported, News.ro writes.

Footage from the scene shows several cars engulfed in flames and people’s screams can be heard.

In addition, 18 of the 35 dead were charred.

Road accidents are very common in Egypt, where roads are often poorly maintained and the Roustier Code is poorly enforced.

Officially, approximately 7,000 people died in road accidents in 2021 in the Arab world’s most populous country with a population of 105 million, the previously quoted source said.
