The family of Al Jazeera’s chief correspondent in Gaza has been killed in an Israeli attack, the Qatari news channel announced on Wednesday, as quoted by AFP.
The wife and two children of journalist Wael al-Dahdu, who works for a pan-Arab TV channel, were killed in an attack on the Nuseirat refugee camp in the Gaza Strip, which is constantly bombarded by Israel after a bloody attack by the Palestinian movement Hamas on its territory on October 7.
“The indiscriminate attack by the Israeli occupation forces led to the tragic disappearance of his wife, son and daughter, and the rest of his family is under rubble,” the TV channel said in a statement.
The Hamas attack and the Israeli army’s crackdown on Gaza have killed more than 1,400 people in Israel, according to authorities, and more than 6,500 in the Palestinian territories, according to the Islamist movement, with the majority of victims on both sides being civilians.
In addition, more than 220 men, women and children have been taken hostage by Hamas since October 7.
A Qatari television channel broadcast images of its correspondent mourning his wife and children at a hospital in Deir al-Balah in the southern Gaza Strip, an area controlled by Hamas since 2007.
Al Jazeera said its journalist’s family had taken refuge in the center of the territory, following the advice of the Israeli army, which asked Gazans to leave the north of the region and head south. (Source: Agerpres)
