Oncologist Mircea Savu of the Bucharest Cancer Institute says that there are still patients diagnosed with cancer who resort to treatments found on the Internet or through other communication channels. He cites the example of a patient who refused treatment at the suggestion of an energy therapist, as well as a woman who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2018 and is refusing treatment, News.ro reports.

“All media channels are full of medical stories: teas, bioenergetics… It happened to me that the son of a patient who is in good condition, after years and years and years of treatment, was diagnosed with lymphoma. He went to an energy therapist and told him he was fine. He refused treatment and died. I have a patient who was diagnosed with breast cancer in March 2018, until now she has not been treated. Unfortunately, we also have surgeons who do PR: I operated on a 19-kilogram cyst.

Where is the prevention for a patient who has a cyst of 19 kilograms? In addition, in these cases we have no data on what happens in the long term,” said doctor Mircea Savu on Medika TV on Tuesday evening.

According to him, in addition to “medical myths”, the health care system also has “weaknesses” in terms of providing medical care to cancer patients.

“Honestly, I think we have to think that this situation resonates with some medical myths and unfortunately also reflects some weaknesses in the system, that if a person comes to the doctor and three months later is scheduled for a CT scan, what hope is there? is it in the medical system? And then he goes to the children,” said Mircha Savu.

The doctor also noted that there are patients who “go to the doctor when they can’t anymore”, and in the case of cancer, this means that patients come to the doctor in advanced stages. Mircea Savu added that “the situation is not only in Romania”, but also in other states with a developed medical system.
