53-year-old Viktorash Grozavu died on October 16 near the fence of the Braila District Hospital, where he was hospitalized in the cardiology department, Info Brăila reports.

The man’s family has filed a complaint with the medical board and accuses the medical staff of “not taking their concerns about his condition seriously,” DeBraila said.

Viktor Grozavu’s son said that his father began to feel bad on October 5, he had “symptoms of a respiratory infection, heavy discharge of sputum in the throat and nose, which prevented him from speaking freely and breathing effectively, accompanied by swelling of the lower limbs on the kneecap below . and some wounds of the type of varicose ulcers.”

That day, the man was hospitalized in the cardiology department, where the doctor informed the family that he had been diagnosed with heart failure.

The family was later reassured that the lower extremity swelling would subside with furosemide.

The man, who was being treated for diabetes, was also diagnosed with pulmonary edema following an X-ray and was prescribed paracetamol for his respiratory symptoms, a medication the family bought outside the hospital.

The man became illegible

During the entire period of hospitalization, the patient felt unwell, which was reported to the medical staff by his son.

On October 10, he was informed that he would undergo a consultation with a ENT, but this was not carried out until his death, which occurred on October 16, Viktorash Grozava’s son accuses, saying that “my father’s condition worsened during the period he stayed in the hospital” in the complaint to the board of doctors.

A day before his death, Viktorash Grozavu felt worse and worse, it was difficult for him to breathe, which eventually required the introduction of oxygen.

On the evening before his death, medical staff asked the son to bring two medicines to the hospital when he tried to speak to his father, but he did not respond. Since there was no visitation schedule, he hurried to leave with the words “See you tomorrow, Dad.”

Shortly after, he received a call from his father, who was slurred, after which he drove to the hospital, where he reported the 53-year-old’s state of consciousness, indicating a possible vascular accident.

The doctor on duty told the family that in fact the patient would be abstinent, the family would take away his cigarettes also based on the fact that he had not consumed alcohol since his admission.

The man was an avid smoker and, despite the contraindications of doctors, often went out to smoke.

The man was found dead, leaning against the fence of Braille Hospital

Doctors assured the family that he was being treated for withdrawal, but on the morning of October 16, the doctor on duty informed the family that the man left the salon, probably to buy cigarettes.

Police called the man’s son a short time later to say his father, wearing pajamas and barefoot, was found dead leaning against a fence about 10 meters from the hospital’s exit, his son said.

The doctor called the police when he noticed the man was no longer in the cabin, and officers found him unconscious outside the hospital ward and later pronounced dead.

According to the Recorder, cited by DeBrăila, the cause of death was a myocardial infarction.

The director of Braila District Hospital, Mihaela Risnoveanu, called internal audits by the Ethics Commission to avoid an explanation. “I hope this will not happen again,” she summed up. The Ministry of Health announced that DSP Brăila and the District Council are also investigating.

  • “The man, who also had the effects of a stroke and was confused, went missing and an alarm was raised, according to reports. He was found 10-15 meters from the side gate, gate 2 of the Hospital, in his pajamas and barefoot, dead. His son also filed a complaint with the medical board and the hospital. I can only say that I have the doctors’ conclusions, because he was attended by 3 doctors.
  • Doctors say that he does not follow the regimen and recommendations, continues to smoke. His son charges that he was not even treated properly. We cannot tie them up or close patients.
  • It seems abnormal and unnatural to me, how can he leave the hospital when we have security? I see a mistake here. Or, please, the weak link. An investigation is now underway at the hospital, at the administrative level, at the college of doctors and at the police,” Dr. Dragoš Vojku, medical director of the Braila County Emergency Clinical Hospital, was quoted as saying by Pro Brăila.

Criminal proceedings have been opened in the case on grounds of involuntary manslaughter. After the investigative measures, the police officers of the Brăila Municipal Police have also filed an official report of the crime of negligence in the service, the investigation continues to establish the exact situation, Info Brăila reports.
