Neymar was injured during Uruguay’s 2026 World Cup qualifier against Brazil and the doctors’ verdict for the Seleção star is grim.
Neymar – Rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus of the left knee
According to the CBF (Brazilian Football Federation), Neymar has torn ligaments in his left knee and will undergo an operation.
A medical examination “confirmed a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus of the left knee,” according to a CBF press release.
Late in the first half of the game in Montevideo, Neymar was injured after a challenge with midfielder Nicolas De la Cruz and was carried off on a stretcher with tears in his eyes, replaced by Richarlison.
CBF has not specified the date of the operation yet.
“This is a very sad moment, the worst in my career. I know I’m strong, but I need the support of my family and friends more than ever.
It’s not easy to get injured, have surgery, and then start all over again a few months later. I have faith and put everything in God’s hands, may He give me strength. Thank you all for the messages,” Neymar wrote on his personal Instagram account.
In addition, Brazil lost 2-0 to Uruguay, the Seleção’s first defeat in the preliminary matches of the World Cup since 2015.
It was also Brazil’s first defeat against Uruguay in 22 years.
This year, Neymar suffered another serious injury (ankle), which kept him sidelined from March to September.
