There is deep skepticism in the Middle East about Israel’s and the US’s assessment of the Gaza hospital bombing, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said, The Guardian reports.
“No one believes this story in this part of the world,” Safadi told NBC News.
“The only way people will accept a different story is if there is an independent international investigation into the tragedy that happened, with irrefutable evidence that it was not Israel,” he said.
The US government believes that Israel is not responsible for an explosion at a hospital in Gaza that allegedly killed hundreds of civilians on Tuesday, the White House National Security Council announced on Wednesday.
In a statement, spokeswoman Adrienne Watson said intelligence agencies said “some Palestinian militants” in the Gaza Strip believe the blast “may have been caused by an accidental rocket fired by Palestinian Islamic Jihad.”
The same version was shared by the Israeli army a few hours after the attack, after conducting some checks.
“The US government understands that Israel is not responsible for the explosion that killed civilians yesterday (Tuesday – not) at Al-Ahli Hospital in the Gaza Strip. Our assessment is based on available reports, including intelligence, missile activity, and images and video footage, as well as open-source footage of the incident.
Intelligence agencies indicate that some Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip believe the explosion was likely caused by a stray rocket or a faulty rocket launch by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PJI). The militants were still investigating what happened,” the White House said. (News.ro)
