Members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) should impose an oil embargo and other sanctions against Israel and expel Israeli ambassadors, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said on Wednesday, Reuters reported.

An emergency meeting of the OIC is being held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to discuss the escalation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict following Tuesday’s blast at Al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza, which killed hundreds, the Palestinian Authority said.

“The foreign minister calls for an immediate and complete embargo on Israel by Islamic countries, including oil sanctions, in addition to the expulsion of Israeli ambassadors if relations have been established with the Zionist regime,” the ministry in Tehran said in a statement.

Amirabdollahian also called for the formation of a group of Islamic jurists to document potential war crimes committed by Israel in Gaza.

There are no diplomatic relations between Iran and Israel.

Before Tuesday’s explosion at a Gaza hospital, health authorities in the enclave announced that at least 3,000 people had died in 11 days of bombardment that began after Hamas attacked communities and military bases in southern Israel, killing 1,300 people and around 200 were taken hostage in Gaza.
