The system administrator of Filelist, the oldest and most famous torrent site in Romania, has announced that it will close down after 16 years.

“Dear Ones, I am sorry to have to announce this, but this is the end of our tracker. It is important that you understand and accept this decision. Although difficult, it was adopted after careful evaluation and for good reason. Unfortunately, I no longer have the necessary time to maintain the site,” said a message posted on Sunday evening in the Filelist news section by admin “EboLLa”.

“Such a site requires quite a lot of effort, and in recent years my priorities in everyday life have changed. Time is the most valuable resource for all of us and I have invested enough time here,” he says, adding that he wanted to leave the site to someone else to take care of it in the future, but “unfortunately, I can’t have someone to take care of it. left.”

“ToXiC, the one who was going to take my place, is no longer with us. The responsibility is great, we have a huge number of users who also have sensitive data that cannot be left in anyone’s hands. There can be a lot of abuse and whoever has absolute power can decide anything about anything that concerns the community, so obviously you need a reliable, capable person who also has very advanced technical knowledge to ensure the safety of users and the proper functioning of the site . It is quite difficult to find such a person who would integrate here and share the same values ​​and have the same commitment that you have enjoyed for the last 16 years,” he continues.

The administrator of Filelist notes that he decided “it’s better to close the site than to risk something like this. I’m really sorry, I put a lot of work into it too, and I’ve always been at the heart of the community. As a SysOp, I thank you for your active participation in our community.”

“What will happen from now on? Donations are now closed and the amount we have will cover expenses for another 2-3 months. During this time, you can still enjoy the site, download everything you need from here, and post your goodbye message on the branch,” he explained.

“In about 3 months, sometime around January 2024, the site will be shutting down forever,” EboLLa announced.

Filelist was temporarily shut down by the authorities in 2020

The oldest and most famous torrent site in Romania became inactive for a few days 3 years ago, when the Prosecutor’s Office of the Supreme Court of Cassation secured its arrest.

Filelist.ro was no longer available at the beginning of May of the year in question, and those still visiting Filelist.ro were greeted with the message: “This domain name has been confiscated in accordance with the provisions of Article 249 of the Code. criminal process. Criminal proceedings have been opened against this domain name.”

It was the only time in the torrent site’s more than a decade of existence that the Romanian authorities tried to take action against it, even though its activities were public knowledge.

However, Filelist reopened 3 days later on the new domain Filelist.io instead of Filelist.ro.
