A baby cuckoo that remained captive in a net surrounding a soccer field in the municipality of Vulcan was rescued by a team of military firefighters from Petroshani, who were called to help by people who saw the bird, named Chiup, struggling to escape without success from where it stuck, the Emergency Situations Inspectorate (ISU) of Hunedoara reported on Sunday, Agerpres reports.

“Ciup is not a football player or a referee, but his passion for football is somewhat evident, as a cuckoo decided to fly over the football field in the municipality of Vulcan in the afternoon when he was supposed to be sleeping. And since a fence, unfortunately, never compares to a tree, Chupe was trapped in the netting that surrounded the playing field. People nearby saw him struggling helplessly, and since the fence was very high, they immediately called 112 and reported the situation,” ISU Hunedoara said in a statement on the institution’s Facebook page.

Firefighters from the Petroshani unit rushed to the aid of the cuckoo chick, who rushed to the scene and in a few minutes cut the net and saved the little bird.

To ensure that he was not life-threatening, the firefighters took Chup with them to the unit, where he was consulted by a veterinarian. Then Chup stayed with the firemen until late in the evening, as recommended by the doctor, after which he was released.

“He made his first stop on the branch of a nearby spruce, from where he watched his rescuers with wide-open and curious eyes until they entered the corral. Congratulations, Valentin, Silviu, Andrii, Denys and Ionuts! The rescue mission and everything you did after that for Tsiup, the cuckoo bird, proves to us that the true beauty of people comes from the heart and definitely from their unconditional actions,” sent representatives of ISU Hunedoara.
