“After he fired at the officers, he attempted to run away and the officers attempted to stop him before neutralizing him by shooting him,” police said in a statement.

A body covered with a tarpaulin was visible nearby, an AFP photographer noted. A large number of security forces are deployed at the site.

Six Palestinians were killed Wednesday in the West Bank, a Palestinian territory occupied by Israel since 1967, four in an attack by Israeli settlers and two soldiers, according to the Palestinian Authority.

Since Saturday, 29 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank in violence related to the conflict between Israel and the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas.

Israel was caught off guard by a bloody attack carried out on October 7 by Hamas militants, who kidnapped about 150 people.

The fighting in some localities lasted for several days and left behind hundreds of bodies, not all of which have yet been found or identified.

More than 1,200 people died in Israel during this attack, the bloodiest since the establishment of the Israeli state 75 years ago.
