Israeli actor David Kunio was allegedly kidnapped by Hamas along with his wife, 3-year-old daughters, daughter-in-law and niece during the massacre on Saturday, writes Variety magazine, quoted by News.ro.
David Cunio, who made his debut in the 2013 feature film Youth, which premiered at the Berlinale alongside his twin brother Eitan Cunio, was a resident of Nir Oz, a kibbutz in southern Israel that became the scene of some of Israel’s worst crimes. Palestinian terrorists.
Cunio’s brother-in-law, Aaron Aloni, told CNN that the actor woke up Saturday morning to the sound of bombs and hid in a bomb shelter in his home with his wife Sharon, the couple’s 3-year-old twins, Sharon’s sister Danielle and her daughter Amelia, 5. But the family was forced to flee after terrorists set fire to their home and have not been seen or heard from since, leading officials to believe they were among 150 people abducted in Gaza.
“We woke up on Saturday with alarms and called them,” Aloni said. “They told us that they were in a safe room and that there were terrorists in the kibbutz. They told us that they heard terrorists from their neighbors and after 10 or 20 minutes they told us that they heard terrorists in their house and that they were weren’t sure they were going to make it. They said, ‘I love you.'” Later, I got a text saying they were leaving the house, and that was the last I heard from them.”
“This whole situation does not mean soldiers against soldiers,” Aloni added. “It’s an army no less, Hamas is an army against civilians. Mothers, sisters, children, [nepoatele] mine is 3 years old [nepoata] my 5 year old is there. All I want is to see them again.”
Saturday’s attack, which also killed hundreds of young people at a music festival, was the bloodiest in Israeli history and the worst attack on Jews since the Holocaust. More than 1,000 dead and more than 2,000 injured.
The attacks came on Saturday, nearly 50 years after the Arab League launched an attack on Israel in what became known as the Yom Kippur War. Not surprisingly, Israel’s film and television industry, like much of the country, has shut down as the country reels from the attack.
Tom Shoval, who directed the award-winning film Youth, spoke to Variety about Cunio’s abduction and the hope that the actor and his family will be found alive. “This nightmare happened this Saturday and we don’t have much information about their whereabouts and we assume they are being held in Gaza,” Shoval said. “It’s about him, his wife and twin children. I hope they will be released soon and nothing more terrible has happened to them.”
Shoval appealed to Western governments to help find and return Hamas hostages in Gaza. “It is imperative and important that time is running out and we must do everything we can to free these hostages, who include children and the elderly, and bring them home. This is a real emergency.”
“Holy Spider” producer Saul Bondi, who also co-produced “Youth,” told Variety: “The involvement of civilians in this terrible conflict is a real tragedy on both sides. Governments must do everything they can to keep people away from it – and ensure they return home safely. As a father of two myself, I cannot imagine what David and his wife must be going through, and I pray for their safe return.”
Kirsten Niguus, head of German sponsor Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, which financially supported Molod in 2013, added: “We, as Medienboard, have very close ties to the Israeli film community. We share the pain with the Israeli people and we condemn. brutal attacks on some innocent people. We call on the kidnappers to release their hostages and thus reopen the door to prevent further bloodshed.”
