11 Irish nationals lost in the Rodna Mountains due to fog were rescued on Thursday by mountain rescuers using the SMURD helicopter after an intervention that lasted more than ten hours. Five of them were taken to the hospital for examination, reports News.ro.
“After 10 hours and 40 minutes, the last citizen of Ireland was lowered from the mountain. 5 of them were taken to Borsha Hospital for examination, the rest did not require medical assistance. In the action that ended a few minutes ago, he acted together with the mountain rescuers and the helicopter from POA Jibou,” Salvamont Maramureş representatives showed.
Eleven Irish nationals set off from Pietroise Monastery on a tour of the Rodna Mountains on Wednesday morning, but got lost in the fog.
Salvamont Maramures clarified that the tourists were equipped to climb the mountain, had food and water with them, but the thick fog that surprised them forced them to stay on the mountain for the night.
“There are 2 people in the group with health problems (medicines for heart diseases). It was possible to install them, being somewhere high on the top towards the weather station, they were asked not to move away from the point where they are located,” the mountain rescuers said.
