Ukraine’s chief rabbi, Moshe Azman, published a collage of two photos showing his grandchildren hiding from Russian rocket fire and then, after being evacuated to Israel, from Hamas.

“In the first photo, my grandchildren are hiding from the rockets of Russian terrorists in the Kyiv region, in the first days of the terrible invasion of Ukraine. Later, along with thousands of others, I evacuated them to Israel and Europe. In the second photo, the same people are hiding from the rockets of Hamas terrorists,” he explained in a post on the X social network, formerly Twitter.

“Two different corners of the world, but shared pain and struggle… My heart breaks when I see these faces, but I believe that the light of truth and faith will help us overcome these trials,” he added.

“I pray to the Almighty to pour out his anger and wrath on all those involved in this terrorizing of civilians!” he concluded his message.

At least 1,200 people have been killed in Israel since Saturday, when Hamas launched a surprise attack, according to the latest figures from the Israeli military.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday that the escalation of violence between Israel and Hamas is the result of United States policy and that a lasting solution to the conflict cannot be achieved without the creation of a free Palestinian state.
