The overnight train connecting Brussels to Berlin via Amsterdam will be extended to Prague next spring, European Sleeper said in a press release on Tuesday. The four European capitals will then be connected with the possibility of reaching Paris and London by another train from Brussels, reports La Libre, as quoted by Rador Radio Romania.
Three times a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) the train will depart from Brussels South at 19:22 and arrive at Prague Main Station at 10:56 the next day. There are 17 stops planned between the two points: one in Antwerp, seven in the Netherlands, six in Germany and three in the Czech Republic, according to the schedule released by the Belgian-Dutch company.
The first shipment is scheduled for March 25, 2024. The return train will depart the Czech Republic at 18:04 and arrive in Brussels at 09:27, with two fewer stops on the route.
The first night train Berlin – Brussels was launched on May 25. Since then, the company claims to have carried 20,000 passengers. In several trains in the summer period, all seats were occupied.
According to European Sleeper, the addition of the cities of Dresden and Prague should attract many additional passengers. “We expect that about 40% of passengers will go to one of the two cities. The remaining 60% will soon travel between Brussels and Berlin,” said company director Chris Engelsman.
The European Sleeper is not going to stop there and envisions an Amsterdam-Barcelona connection by 2025, an initiative chosen by the European Commission as one of ten pilot projects to improve European cross-border rail connectivity.
