Iran’s foreign ministry said Saturday’s attacks by its ally Hamas on Israel were proof of growing Palestinian confidence in their chances in the conflict, the semi-official ISNA news agency reported.

“The element of surprise and other combined methods were used in this operation, which shows the confidence the Palestinian people have gained in the face of the occupiers,” Iranian ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani was quoted as saying by ISNA. Reuters and News.ro.

Meanwhile, an article appeared on the website of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei under the heading: “The usurping Zionist regime (Israel) is nearing its end.” The site also highlighted his comments that countries that normalize relations with Israel, Iran’s biggest enemy, are “betting on a dead horse.”

Iran’s Nournews, linked to the country’s security establishment, said the attacks “showed that despite its claims of intelligence and security dominance over the resistance, Israel failed to anticipate its operations” and that its Dom de Fier (Iron Dome , anti-missile shield – no) was nothing more than “a straw dome on top of a sandcastle”.

Separately, government spokesman Ali Bahadori-Jahromi told state media that the attacks “proved that the Zionist regime is more vulnerable than ever and that the initiative is in the hands of Palestinian youth.”

In a video broadcast by Iran’s state television, people gathered in Tehran’s Palestine Square to greet news of the attack, chanting “Death to Israel” and setting off fireworks.
