Ion Georgescu, arrested for influence peddling after he was caught red-handed while returning €10,000 in bribes, has been remanded in custody for 30 days.

According to a DNA report, on June 8, 2023, Valerico Nicolae filed a complaint in which he claimed that there was an agreement between him and Mayor Ion Georgescu that in exchange for a sum of €30,000, the Mayor would intervene in the case. management positions in the city hospital of Mioven for his daughter Synziana Alina Nicolae, who will work in this medical unit as a surgeon. It should be noted that the head of the Mioveni hospital, Mircha Stoyan, is the mayor’s son-in-law.

Nicolae Valerique claimed that of the €30,000 he actually transferred €10,000 to Georgescu, as well as the fact that these actions were to take place during 2022.

In a statement provided to the investigators, Sinziana Alina Nicolae said that she met the mayor Ion Georgescu several times, accompanied by her father, both at the Mioveni town hall and at the hospital in Mioveni, where she was working at the time, known as a volunteer.

The woman claimed she was “devastated” after discussions at the hospital, after manager Mircea Stoyan and medical director Iacobescu told her there might be a vacancy for a surgeon in a year’s time.

She eventually got a job as a doctor at the Kosteshti Hospital, but her father insisted that she be transferred to the Mioveni Hospital.

The file contains recordings of the discussions held by Valerica Nicolae and Ion Georgescu in the atmosphere.

Thus, during the meeting on 24.06.2023, the two discuss, among other things, the following important aspects regarding the illegal activities carried out by the mayor:

NIKOLAYE VALERIKA: Long live! I have the honor!

GEORGESCU ION: I am not in debt!

NIKOLAE VALERICA: Well, I understand.

GEORGESCU ION: Leave me alone, I have problems. I’m not staying. August, September I… Not guilty.

NICOLAE VALERICO: Mr. Mayor, believe me, I… I came for my girlfriend, so you can figure me out. I don’t understand why you didn’t try to help me.

GEORGESCU ION: No matter how hard I tried…

NICOLAE VALERICA: Well, listen to me. Those people, when you took me there to see the director (unintelligible), said that in a year.

GEORGESCU ION: Matale.. Matale, you got angry… Matale, you took her to the army (nn military hospital). Matale, you said he couldn’t work with Jacobescu. What do you mean no…! I think you spoiled them more than the girl from the discussion I left you, which you suddenly had… I do not deny the quality of Jacobescu, because I do not know him that well, but the discussion you talk about that he is in trouble, that a girl is taking his place or something like that. Well, first of all, there’s no way, because it’s a 5-year thing. Second, this one goes anyway. This is for the last… (unintelligible).

NICOLAE VALERICO: He meant the position of surgeon, not economic director, because she doesn’t need it.

GEORGESCU ION: Well, I don’t think so… Well, he’s the economic director.

NIKOLAYE VALERIKA: No, medical.

ION GEORGESCU: .., a surgeon and works part-time.

NICOLAE VALERICA: I know, you told me. So.

ION GIORGESCU: He enters into certain transactions with Potecă.

NIKOLAE VALERICA: I understand, yes. Mr. Mayor, anyway… I want her to come here… Listen to me!

GEORGESCU ION: Now it is much easier to accept.

NICOLAE VALERICA: Listen to me! Now she took it to Kosteshti, she no longer needs to take the exam.

GEORGESCU ION: It’s much easier to accept now, she. What can be taken by transfer.

MYKOLA VALERYCH: By transfer, that’s all, let me come to you by transfer.

GEORGESCU ION: Do you really want to bring her?

NIKOLAYE VALERICH: Yes. Tell me!

GEORGESCU ION: Yes, why not…

NIKOLAE VALERIKA: Tell me. It was not easier. I thought about this, this option, so that I don’t cause you any problems, and I don’t have any problems, and I say…

ION GEORGESCOU: At the moment, you are well aware that positions in budget institutions, in the hospital, and in education are blocked.

NICOLAE VALERICA: They are blocked, yes.

GEORGESCU ION: Good. You know I’ve been telling you since then that I have to create some positions.

NIKOLAYE VALERIKA: That’s right.

GEORGESCU ION: We are in the period of… right now, probably August or September… I told you that we were working on the organization chart of the old hospital.

NIKOLAYE VALERIKA: That’s right.

GEORGESCU ION: Now they are working on an organizational chart, after I got the new accreditation, this team came… they are working… my girls and the hospital, they are working on a new organizational chart for the departments that I am and the departments, what some I should have opened them, and they will not. For example, instead of I don’t know which department they now want oncology, department. So I can’t before January.

NIKOLAYE VALERIKA: Next year, next year.

GEORGESCU ION: Maybe if they unlock positions, maybe at least in surgery, which is an established department, I can also in the fall.

NIKOLAYE VALERICA: Huh!

GEORGESCU ION: But I don’t want to say anything more that you twist them and then say: “Lord… you didn’t want…”.

NICOLAE VALERICO: I didn’t translate them, I said that, first of all, I saw that your hospital is also very crowded. It was much easier here, it was much easier here, believe me! She has…

GEORGESCU ION: So, the doctors are not too tight. There were not too many people in Mioven, the biggest crowd was for the nurses.

NIKOLAE VALERICA: Yes, I don’t know, understand that I don’t know.

GEORGESCU ION: It was 30, 40… when I took them to the university, not…

NIKOLAE VALERICO: Do you have your phone with you? Listen to me!

GEORGESCU ION: Didn’t I announce SRI?

NIKOLAE VALERICA: Yes, I know. Mr. Mayor, in addition to the 10,000 I gave you, I will give you another 20,000.

GEORGESCU ION: Get out of here, sir.

NICOLAE VALERICA: So listen to me! Well, so you can do this transmission, sir… So listen to me!

GEORGESCU ION: I am now… I am with the days of the city.

NIKOLAE VALERIKA: I understand.

GEORGESCU ION: Well… ok, 7, 8, you come to talk.

MYKOLA VALERYCH: 7, 8 which one? Is it July?

GEORGESCU ION: Julia, you are leaving because my girls are working on a report.

NIKOLAYE VALERICA: Huh!

Another meeting between them will take place on September 30, 2023:

NICOLAE VALERICO: So, Mr. Mayor… So, let’s understand each other now… so the two of us, when we discussed at the beginning… if I can speak directly, if not, you tell me and I don’t speak . When the two of us were talking, a conversation between you and me, I said yes…if you still remember. If not, tell me…

GEORGESCU ION: Matal, you also say…

NICOLAE VALERICO: So, remember when the two of us came to you and said, “Mr. Mayor, what does this cost me… tell me too… this is my child and I’ll take care of it.” I don’t know if you remember the discussion… (At this statement by Georgescu, Ion has a physical/behavioral reaction, correspondingly nodding his head).

ION GEORGESKU: Hello!

NICOLAE VALERICA: Good. I was in your office, we were discussing, and at one point… I said this: “Sir, I have also documented myself, here in this area, in all the hospitals, and in general…” I gave you an example, one in Bucharest, who made the transfer and was asked for the amount of money!”. And I asked you: “Mr. Mayor, tell me…”.

GEORGESCU ION: And I said yes?

NICOLAE VALERICA: Listen to me! If you want to understand me. The first time you said to me like this: “Well, I won’t tell you now, we’ve known each other for more than 30 years…”.

ION GEORGESCU: Yes. (Nods).

NIKOLAE VALERICA: “… let me talk!” After that, we met for the second time and I said this: “Mr. Mayor…” Can you say?

GEORGESCU ION: I have never asked anyone in my life.

NICOLAE VALERICO: Well, no. Listen to me!

GEORGESCU ION: In the life of my life.

NICOLAE VALERICA: No, listen to me! I said so…

GEORGESCU ION: I have many faults… but no… (unintelligible)

NICOLAE VALERICA: No, listen to me! I’m just saying to you: “Mr. Mayor, is 30,000 euros good?”. You said… you nodded in the sense that yes, and I came then in December and gave you this €10,000. And the difference I said… “when we solve, I’ll bring you the difference of 20,000” (Ion does not respond physically/behaviourally to this statement by Georgescu).

NICOLAE VALERICO: So, my request…if you think my offer is valid, I will come and bring you the difference (To Georgescu’s statement, Ion shakes his head “NO”).

GEORGESCU ION: If you think that it is no longer possible… (At this statement, Georgescu Ion shakes his head as a sign of “NO”).

NICOLAE VALERICA: …if you think it’s no longer possible… I won’t come with it anymore – that’s enough.

GEORGESCU ION: You want to come… you come… you call me on Tuesday at 12 for Wednesday and Thursday. If not, say no problem.

NICOLAE VALERICA: Well, if not… if you think it’s possible…

GEORGESCU ION: No, you will see for yourself on Tuesday. On Wednesday or Thursday. And matele you make a decision on wednesday or thursday.

NIKOLAYE VALERICA: Okay, done. I understand.

Prosecutors say that in the circumstances where Ion Georgescu did not fulfill his promise, also taking into account the fact that in April-May 2023, the procedure for taking the position of specialist in general surgery was carried out at the city hospital of Mioveni, for which the daughter of Valerica Nicolae is targeted, he showed his disbelief in the completion of measures promised by the mayor.

In this context, Ion Georgescu assured Valeric Nicolae that he would fulfill part of the agreement and that Cinziana-Alina Nicolae would be admitted to the Mioveni Municipal Hospital during 2024, at the same time expressing his willingness to return the amount of funds received to ensure his placement in the medical section.

Seeing that Valerica Nicolae was unhappy that his daughter had not yet been admitted to the Mioveni City Hospital and that the hospitalization had been postponed until 2024, Mayor Ion Georgescu called Valerica Nicolae on October 4, after work, at the office of the Mioveni City Hall, where he returned the sum of 10 000 euros in a bag, after which the prosecutor’s office intervened.

Ion Georgescu was detained for 24 hours, then a preventive measure was chosen.

At the hearing, the mayor told the investigators that the money in question was a loan previously taken from the chief of the local police of Pitesti.

“When the police arrived, Nikolay Valerika had a bag with 10,000 euros. “If I had known that the complaint was filed by the aforementioned Nicolae Valerike, I would have told the police that he came to bribe me,” the mayor said. (Agerpress)
