The capital’s mayor, Nikušor Dan, said on Thursday that work to strengthen the Granta Bridge in Bucharest is scheduled to begin on October 15, since the CFR did not give approval for the work during the summer, and that it will last “4 months, maybe 5 months, which means”.
“The Grant bridge needs to be strengthened. True, we could do it in the summer. Actually, there was such a plan last year, but it was delayed. In order to comply with the law and complete all the formalities, there are delays. I started in the summer, however, with braces, you can’t work in the summer and that’s a problem. Why did we start with stretching in the summer, and not start with the strengthening of the bridge itself? Because you need several days to work on the train line. And for that you need to get permission from the CFR because the railway lines belong to the CFR and the CFR did not give us approval in the summer because there was a lot of traffic, especially towards Constanta. And during the summer we worked on stretchers, which also affected traffic, and now we hope to complete the bridge strengthening work as soon as possible in the most compact changes,” Nikusor Dan explained on the air of the show on Thursday. TV channel B1, reports News.ro.
General Edil added that the optimistic deadline for the completion of the works is four months.
“The most optimistic term is 4 months, one way, attention! So the previous administration said it had completed a bridge, but actually built a third. Currently scheduled to start on October 15th and last 4 months, maybe 5 months one way, Crângaşi to Turda direction, the other direction is working and the tram will run on one track while it is being repaired, a second rail is being built, followed by another. So the tram will run in the direction of Crângaşi, it will run, it will not run in the other direction, as little as possible,” Dan concluded.
On August 8, the mayor of the capital announced that the work on strengthening the Granta bridge was resumed after a 3-year break and that the completion time is 24 months and the investment is 65 million lei.
