The chain of fast food establishments Burger King continues to operate as usual in Russia, despite the statement of withdrawal from the country due to the invasion of Ukraine, the BBC reports.

The company ended corporate support for its offices in Russia last March, but said it faced obstacles because its main partner in the country “refused” to close the facilities.

Now reports indicate that the fast food chain in Russia is continuing to operate as usual.

Restaurant Brands International (RBI), which owns 15% of Burger King in Russia, told the BBC it had “no new updates to share at this time” on its exit.

Carlsberg products will no longer be sold in Russia

Carlsberg terminated licensing agreements for its brands in Russia in response to what it called an “illegitimate takeover” of its business by Moscow in July.

The brewery said today that it had notified its Russian subsidiary Baltika of the termination of the agreement that allowed it to manufacture, market and sell Carlsberg products.

What large Western companies have remained in Russia?

Many foreign companies, including those from the West, continue to receive billions of rubles in Russia, despite sanctions and calls to boycott the country led by Vladimir Putin because of the war in Ukraine, Forbes Russia reports.

The most profitable foreign company in Russia in 2023 is the French giant Leroy Merlin with a total revenue of 529.7 billion rubles (about 5.185 billion euros).

It is followed in the ranking by two tobacco manufacturers Japan Tobacco International (revenue 432.6 billion rubles) and the American company Philip Morris International (399.9 billion rubles).

The top 10 of the rating are completed by:

  • PepsiCo – 303.3 billion rubles;
  • Auchan – 292.6 billion;
  • VEON (Dutch telecommunications company) – 286.4 billion;
  • Metro Cash & Carry – 223.6 billion;
  • Mars – 201.4 billion;
  • NestlĂ© Russia – 195 billion;
  • Chery Automobile (Chinese car manufacturer) – 147.5 billion rubles.
