The White House on Tuesday called on the US Congress to approve an increase in multibillion-dollar funding for Ukraine, warning that “time is not our friend” during the war, SkyNews reports.

“We need Congress to act,” he said, referring to the still-unresolved request by the Biden administration to approve $24 billion in new funds for Ukraine.

John Kirby also told reporters that ending support “could change everything” for Ukraine on the battlefield.

He insisted that supporting Ukraine was “the right thing to do” and that opposing Vladimir Putin’s invasion could prevent a “bigger conflict” involving US forces.

The U.S. Congress passed a temporary bill on Saturday to extend government spending for a month to avoid a default, but it contains no provision for aid funds to Ukraine, which remains a sticking point for conservatives.
