Most of the new brigades will be mobile trucks “for field redeployment” in rural areas.

“This investment is historic,” the French head of state said during a visit to the barracks in Tonnen in southwestern France. These efforts should partially compensate for the more than 500 brigades suppressed between 2007 and 2016, the Elysée Palace emphasizes.

“People need your presence because it reassures, discourages and accompanies,” added President Macron.

Of the 238 brigades that will be created from November this year until 2027, 93 will be stationary and 145 will be mobile. Except for Paris, all departments will receive from one to four new brigades.

Although the majority of crimes are committed in the most densely populated cities, in 2021, law enforcement agencies located in rural communes, where a third of the capital’s population lives, “almost a quarter of recorded cases of sexual and domestic violence or apartment burglaries.” .

The big operational innovation is mobile brigades, each equipped with six gendarmes who will travel with a truck.

President Emmanuel Macron insisted on “their ability to move to the closest position on the ground and in areas that were less covered than others due to the absence of troops.”
