US military spending on Ukraine is “irrational”, said Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who called on Washington to allocate more resources to help Latin American countries, Sky News reports.

The left-leaning president has long called for the US to allocate more money to aid economic development in Central America and the Caribbean to reduce migration pressure.

“I was just watching how now they are not sanctioning aid for the war in Ukraine,” he said.

“But how much did they allocate for the war in Ukraine? 30-50 billion dollars for the war. What is the most irrational thing you can do. And it’s harmful,” says the Mexican president.

López Obrador sought to maintain Mexico’s neutrality in the war and criticized Western military aid to Kiev and proposed peace talks to end the conflict, although his government supported some major UN resolutions that criticized Russia’s role in the conflict.
