Petra Kvitova lost to Lyudmila Samsonova at the WTA in Beijing

The 2011 and 2014 Wimbledon champion Kvitova lost to the Russian after one hour and 35 minutes with a score of 6-4, 7-5.

Samsonova (22 WTA) will fight for a place in the quarters with the winner of the match Ons Zhaber (7 WTA) – Marta Kostiuk (44 WTA).

Other wins on Monday went to: Iga Sviatek (favorite 2), Coco Gauf (3), Ons Jaber (7), Caroline Garcia (9) and Daria Kasatkina (11).

The China Open is held in Beijing from September 30 to October 8 on hard, is part of the WTA 1000 category and has a total prize pool of $8,127,389.

The competition was last held in 2019 (it was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic), and then Naomi Osaka became the champion.
