Petra Kvitova, the 12th seed of the WTA 1000 tournament in Beijing, was eliminated by Lyudmila Samsonova in the second round.

The 2011 and 2014 Wimbledon champion Kvitova lost to the Russian after one hour and 35 minutes with a score of 6-4, 7-5.

Samsonova (22 WTA) will fight for a place in the quarters with the winner of the match Ons Zhaber (7 WTA) – Marta Kostiuk (44 WTA).

The competition was last held in 2019 (it was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic), and then Naomi Osaka became the champion.
