Commissioners of environmental protection fined 165,000 lei after the action they held in the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve. The largest sanction, in the amount of 100,000 lei, was imposed on the operator of the Mahmudiya treatment plant, because it did not ensure the inclusion of indicators of the quality of treated water when discharging into the Sfantu Gheorghe branch. Murigiola City Hall was also fined 50,000 lei for not collecting waste that was illegally stored at the site, News.ro reported.

Representatives of the National Environmental Guard reported that they checked the operator of the sewage treatment plant in Mahmudia, Tulcea county.

“In the case of the city of Mahmudiya, after a scheduled inspection, GNM commissioners found that the operator of the treatment facilities allowed their operation without ensuring that the quality indicators of the treated water at the discharge were within the maximum limits allowed, according to the regulatory act, in the corresponding natural object in the Danube branch St. George,” the environmental protection commissioners reported.

They specified that the operator of the Mahmudiya sewage treatment plant was fined 100,000 lei for non-compliance with the law on environmental protection.

Implementation measures were also indicated, and verification of their implementation will be the subject of further monitoring.

Another check was also carried out in Murigiola.

“The authorities in the Murigiol area had problems which the GNM commissioners reported and apparently sanctioned. The first was the fact that the construction site in the port of Murigiol does not comply with the norms of the environmental permit, and the dust that rises as a result of the activity is unbearable (something that is also witnessed by local residents). Therefore, the commissioners of GNM imposed a fine on the company that manages construction site, in the amount of 15,000 lei and ordered permanent measures to protect the atmosphere,” sent the commissioners of the Ecological Guard.

Control groups also fined Murigiola City Hall.

“The second sanction came to the mayor’s office in Murigiola. The illegal dumping of waste in the Murighiol UAT radius of the GNM commissioners was reported even by local residents. An authorized group went to the place and established that the citizens’ complaints were confirmed. As a result, the city hall was fined 50,000 lei and ordered to take immediate measures to clean up the affected areas,” the quoted source added.

Since September 25, the Ecological Watch has been conducting a large-scale control action in the “Danube Delta” biosphere reserve.
