Despite the fact that Romania, through the PNRR, committed to increase the share of contributions to level II pensions, the governors tried to push an amendment in the draft fiscal and budgetary measures, according to which Romanians’ contribution to level II was made only on the basis of a clear request, otherwise the money received would go to these private funds, would go to the state social security budget.

This is not the first time that the PSD wants to limit contributions to Tier II pensions in order to redirect them to the state-administered Tier I, which is facing a deficit that must be financed from the state budget. This would be the third attempt, but the measure ran into opposition from fellow PNL rulers, who thwarted the maneuver, which Liberal MP Florin Roman said should have come from the Secretary of State for the Ministry of Finance, Daniel Pescara (PSD).
