During the works in the modular hospital in Constanta, eight graves from the Roman period were found, representatives of the Constanta City Hall announced on Friday.

  • “After obtaining a permit for archaeological research from the Ministry of Culture and starting actual excavations, archaeological remains were discovered during the works at the Modular Hospital.
  • This week, during archaeological research, excavations have so far revealed the existence of eight cremation graves and burials from the Roman period (II-III centuries AD). Inside them, in addition to human remains, glass beads and ceramic objects and fragments were found,” said representatives of the City Hall of Constanta, News.ro reported.

The quoted source stated that remains of this type are a frequent occurrence in the area concerned.

  • “At the moment, in the perimeter dedicated to archaeological research, work has been stopped, archaeological research is ongoing, but this does not prevent the development of other works.
  • The entire territory where the clinical infectious disease hospital is located is located in the perimeter of the necropolis of the ancient city of Tomis. During the execution of other construction works on the territory, in previous years, such graves were also discovered, and the work continued.
  • According to specialists, the procedure is that during such discoveries, human remains and found objects are removed, and the place is returned to current works,” the representatives of the Constanta City Hall also confirmed.

The cost of the new modular hospital is 10 million euros. The modular building will have 52 beds, 10 of which are intended for intensive anesthesiology (ITT), will be equipped with an MRI, a computer tomography, a pharmacy and a laboratory.
