Approximately 2,000 miners still working in the coal sector will be transferred to the new energy complex Valea Jiului, which will receive more than 415 million lei from the government in the next period. At the same time, the company is looking for green energy investors who will create new jobs in the area.

The Ministry of Energy announces in a press release that it has initiated two government decisions allocating 50 million lei from the budget reserve fund available to the Prime Minister to finance the new company Complexul Energetic Valea Jiului SA

At the same time, the new complex will provide services of general economic interest for the safety of mines and coal mining activities in the Jiului Valley.

For the provision of services of public interest by the Valea Jiului Energy Complex in the remaining months of 2023, a fair compensation of 65.8 million lei will be provided, which is fully covered from the state budget through the budget of the Ministry of Energy, to support the costs of the units in the closing process, costs that are not covered related to current production.

In the next period, the energy complex Valea Jiului will receive the functional assets of the energy complex Hunedoara. 2,000 miners and staff at the Hunedoara Energy Complex will also be employed at the new complex.

Company representatives are in talks with potential green energy investors to diversify energy production activities in the region and provide new jobs and a decent standard of living for the people of Wei Jiului.

“The promise is kept: we provide the present and shape the future for Valea Jiului. We tried speeding up a series of steps where we noticed delays. Our goal is to leave no one behind. The two HGs are living proof of continued mining and providing new prospects in the Jiului Valley. The area has a future, we are looking for potential investors in green energy to diversify energy production activities and provide new jobs and a decent standard of living for all residents of Veia Jiului,” said Sebastián Burduya, Minister of Energy.

This money will allocate approximately 300 million lei for rectification, which will support coal-based energy production activities, make mines safe and prepare for the transition to other sources of energy production in the region.
