The body of a German tourist who went missing late last week after a boating accident in the Danube Delta, when two boats collided, was found on Wednesday, officials from the Tulcea emergency inspectorate said.

“This morning, the body of a German man who disappeared in the waters near Mil 23 was found. Pichet Crişan firefighters intervened to take him and bring him to shore, where he was identified. The forces deployed in the search area are being withdrawn, including divers from ISU Tulcea and ISU Brăila,” representatives of ISU Tulcea said, according to news.ro.

The body was found at a distance of about 300 meters from the place where the man fell into the water.

Representatives of the Tulcea District Police Inspectorate reported that on Sunday, the police were notified of a marine accident at the entrance to the Šontja and Olguts channels, in the radius of Mila 23, Krishan commune.

“In the case, the police have opened criminal proceedings on the grounds of committing the crime of intentional bodily harm and destruction. In addition, since a 68-year-old passenger of German origin fell from the boat after the impact, the investigation is ongoing to establish the identity of the man in question,” IPJ Tulcea representatives said.

According to the quoted source, the accident occurred after one of the drivers did not secure properly and collided with another boat at the entrance to the Shawntea Canal.

There were 20 people on board the two boats that took part in the event.
