In the first eight months of this year, the fresh fruit and vegetable sector in Turkey has achieved the highest export figure in history, writes the Turkish daily newspaper Haberler.
Vice-President of the Association of Exporters of the Aegean Region Hayrettin Uchak emphasized that impressive figures were recorded in the first two quarters of this year, which corresponds to the objectives of the medium-term export program established for the period 2024-2026. Thus, from the five billion dollars in revenue planned for the end of this year, the fresh fruit and vegetable sector has reached more than two billion in the first eight months.
Russia, Germany and Romania are the countries to which the largest exports are made
Of the $2.05 billion export of fresh vegetables and fruits, $588 million is accounted for by Russia, which occupies the largest share as an importer. With a 42% increase in imports, Germany is in second place, bringing in $241 million versus $170 million. If in January-August 2022, Turkey exported $136 million worth of fresh fruits and vegetables to Romania, then in the same period of the current year, it exported $196 million, an increase of 46%.
