Agerpres reports that a bear that entered the yard of the Wenzel Josef Higher Technical School in the municipality of Mercure-Chuk on Friday morning was shot.
Vice-Mayor Bors Bela stated that this is the safest option in order not to endanger the lives of hundreds of students who were in the premises of the institution at the time, teachers and citizens living around.
- “According to the procedure, the first option was to drive away, the second – to calm down, the third – to shoot. Considering the fact that the bear was right in the yard of Wenzel Josey High School, on a tree, 30 meters from the school, and there were already hundreds of students in the school, and there are private houses behind the school fence, so the Options to drive away or calm down in we were not there, so the bear had to be shot.
- Everything passed safely, so no one was in danger. If we had resorted to another procedure, perhaps everyone would have been in danger, so the commission unanimously decided that the bear should be shot.
- The shooting was committed at 7:40 a.m. by a hunter of the association with which the Mercury Chuk City Hall has a contract. A veterinarian was also present and, of course, Mr. Korodi Attila and I from the mayor’s office,” said the deputy mayor.
He also said that the bear became aggressive when the task force approached it, the animal tried to climb down from the tree and run away. (photo source Dreamstime)
