Prosecutors in Bordeaux announced they had opened an investigation into the rape of an Irish fan on Sunday, hours after the Rugby World Cup Group C match between Wales and Fiji, Le Figaro reported.
The 37-year-old victim was on the street near the Exchange Square, where she was renting an apartment, when three men allegedly approached her. Then they dragged her to a nearby street, where they raped her.
According to the prosecutor’s office in Bordeaux, the events took place “around midnight” and the woman was “found in the street by a group of Welsh supporters”.
Upon the notification of the residents of the area, the police found the victim when he tried to hide after the assailants fled. The woman was then questioned at the house she rented in the area by “Irish police who were in town as reinforcements” for this weekend’s match against Romania.
According to the victim, she was “sexually assaulted by several people” who then fled the scene. The investigation is entrusted to the departmental police.
The victim was immediately taken to the emergency center for victims of aggression in Bordeaux and the victim support association.
Biological samples were taken from him, others were also taken from his clothes. In addition, images from video surveillance cameras in the vicinity are being studied to find the criminals, writes News.ro.
