“We do not miss a single day for Ukraine. I just met with the Japanese foreign minister and representatives of the Japanese business community. We talked about our resilience. About restoration and development. Energy, transport, demining, social sphere, creation of new jobs in Ukraine – we presented specific areas where we can do more together. Telecommunications, information security, protection of our infrastructure, green energy, automotive industry and the agricultural sector are very important. I am sure that our partnership between Ukraine and Japan will become a global example. An example of how to protect lives and create new opportunities for nations. For free nations,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a video address to his compatriots.

He said that he agreed with Minister Hayashi that Ukraine and Japan should start discussing a bilateral document on security guarantees that Tokyo can offer. “We are already working with the United States, Great Britain and Canada. Now we are also working with Japan,” said Zelensky, who emphasized that this is a very important result from the security point of view, obtained by Kyiv.

The talks came after the G7 group of nations, which includes Japan, announced in July that its members would begin bilateral talks with Ukraine on providing security guarantees aimed at paving the way for Ukraine to join NATO.

Hayashi also pledged support for both Japan’s public and private sectors in rebuilding the Ukrainian economy during a surprise visit to Ukraine on Saturday, where he was accompanied by Japanese business leaders, including Hiroshi Mikitani, founder and CEO of Rakuten Group.

At the beginning of next year, Japan also plans to hold a meeting on the economic recovery of Ukraine.

“On the same day, the president of the Ukrainian parliament, Ruslan Stefanchuk, visited Japan to participate in the summit of the leaders of the G7 parliaments. There is a strong statement of the summit. Important meetings took place. There is clear support for Ukraine and strong signals that all Ukrainian territory must be freed from Russian troops, and this is the only way to a just and lasting peace,” Zelenskyy said.

He emphasized that in a deeply symbolic gesture, the Emperor of Japan received the heads of the G7 parliaments, as well as the head of the Ukrainian parliament and the president of the European Parliament. “It says a lot about what we have achieved. All together. Every person who fights for Ukraine, who works for Ukraine,” Zelenskyy commented.
