Work on the missing section of the Transylvanian highway only resumed this year after a previous contract was terminated two years ago due to roadblocks, but the section from Czesni to Campia Turzii is likely to be ready by the end of 2023, ahead of the contract deadline. . After the completion of the Chețani – Câmpia Turzii section, cars will be able to drive continuously on the Transylvania Highway for almost 97.7 km from Tirgu Mures to Cluj-Napoca.
During the last visit to the construction site, the head of the road company said that “the section with a length of approximately 16 km will be able to be opened at the end of this year, if the contractor maintains this pace of work.”
The STRABAG SRL – GEIGER TRANSILVANIA SRL association started work at the beginning of the year, after several months of planning. The contract was signed on October 16 for the amount of about 420 million lei, and the order to start work will arrive at the end of November. The term of the contract is 3 months for design and 18 months for execution – more precisely, the completion date is August 2024.
The initial contract worth around 280 million lei with the Romanian company Straco was terminated in March 2021, six years after signing, as the construction company went bankrupt and the physical stage was just below 40% in 2021.
At the moment, the physical readiness of the construction site is about 70%, according to CESTRIN’s centralized data.
The opening of traffic in 2023 on the A3 Cheşani – Câmpia Turzii “will be the first”
- “This will be the first section of the motorway to be opened 8 months ahead of the contractual deadline, but the two builders, Strabag and Geiger, have the technical, financial and managerial power to pull off a surprise. Good weather is also needed, especially at the end of the year, but first of all exemplary mobilization of contractors and their subcontractors. We hope it will be successful,” the Pro Infrastructure Association wrote in the spring.
