On Friday, Romania submitted a request to the European Commission to amend its National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) and add a new chapter on REPowerEU, which aims to strengthen the Union’s strategic autonomy by diversifying its energy supply and increasing its independence and the security of the EU’s energy supply.

According to a press release from the Community’s executive committee, the REPowerEU chapter proposed by Romania covers two new reforms and six new investments, as well as an expanded measure already included in the PNRR.

Reforms and investments in the REPowerEU chapter are linked to increasing green energy production, increasing the energy efficiency of buildings and strengthening the skills of the green energy production workforce.

Canceling four investments and changing about 70 measures

The modification of the PNRR proposed by Romania involves the exclusion of four investments from the original plan and the modification of approximately 70 measures.

The Commission will now assess whether the amended plan meets all the assessment criteria set out in the Recovery and Resilience Fund Regulations.

If the Commission’s assessment is positive, it will present a proposal for amendments to the executive decision of the Council, taking into account the changes made to Romania’s plan.

Member States will then have four weeks to approve the Commission’s assessment.
