The first US Open women’s singles semifinal was interrupted about 50 minutes into the second set by environmental activists. We are talking about four people, and one of them stuck Arthur Ash with his bare foot to the cement, which made it difficult for the organizers.
The semifinal with Mukhova at the 2023 US Open, after losing to Gauff early in the second match with a score of 1–0 in sets, was interrupted for about 50 minutes.
Four environmental activists interrupted the game, and one of them taped Arthur Ashe’s feet to the cement floor to prevent him from being evicted.
“Three of the four protesters were removed from the stadium without further incident. A fourth protester pressed his bare feet against the cement floor of Arthur Ashe.
Due to the nature of this action, NYPD and medical personnel safely removed the individual from the stadium,” the USTA said in a statement.
Four of the protesters wore t-shirts that read “End Fossil Fuels.” They were detained by the New York police.
