People with neurological diseases received encouraging news. The 7th European Congress of Neurorehabilitation (ECNR) took place last week in Lyon, France, a leading scientific event that provided a forum for discussion and cutting edge exchange of ideas for world-renowned experts in the field of neurorehabilitation as well as for patients hoping for a better life.
During the event, new methods of neuromodulation, interdisciplinary innovations for community reintegration, treatment of “long-term COVID”, new therapeutic regimens or prognostic algorithms that allow a wider and more efficient selection of stroke patients with the potential for maximum recovery, etc., were presented.
The scientific event highlighted the significant contribution that Romanian medicine has made in recent years in the field of neurorehabilitation, developed especially in our country by a university professor, Dr. Dafin Muresanu, president of the European Federation of Neurorehabilitation Societies (The European Federation of NeuroRehabilitation Societies – EFNR) and one of the most authoritative experts in the field of neurorehabilitation in the world.
He introduced and developed a series of scientific topics in the field of neurorehabilitation that captivated audiences, the main topics centered on the concept of “neurobiological reserve,” or the ability of the brain to withstand disease or injury while functioning normally even in the face of such medical challenges.
In addition, University Professor Dr. Dafin Mureşanu discussed new multidisciplinary approaches to the treatment of post-stroke aphasia, emphasizing the importance of neurotrophic factors in combination with speech therapy based on the latest clinical research conducted in this field. Last but not least, University Professor Dr. Dafin Mureşanu presented the importance of using drugs targeting microcirculation in serious neurological pathologies, such as cerebral vascular accidents, which are currently one of the biggest causes of death and disability worldwide.
“We can say that by representing Romania at this international scientific marathon by numerous professors, doctors and patients, Romanian neurology has taken another important step towards the standards of advanced healthcare systems, both from a clinical and scientific point of view. of medical research, Romanian neurologists can now much more and more easily use the opportunities of the moment in the huge spectrum of neurorehabilitation, which in the future will lead to the implementation of more clearly defined medical care measures that will benefit our patients”. said the president of the 7th European Congress on Neurorehabilitation and the president of the European Federation of Neurorehabilitation Societies (EFNR), prof. Dr. Dafin Muresanu.
Present at the seventh European Congress on Neurorehabilitation, Radu Ganescu, President of the Coalition of Patient Organizations with Chronic Diseases in Romania (COPAC) and member of the board of the European Patient Forum, emphasized the importance of collaboration between doctors and patients, as well as the extremely important role played by patient associations in improving the quality of their lives.
The president of the Coalition of Organizations of Patients with Chronic Diseases, Radu Ganescu, wanted to clarify that: “As patients, we realize how important neurorehabilitation is for those who have suffered a traumatic brain injury, traumatic brain injury or another form of neurodegenerative disease. We see the need to increase the accessibility of these patients to multidisciplinary teams that create an integrated approach in the fastest possible time frame in order to have as many cases as possible successfully solved – people rehabilitated and reintegrated into society – and not disabled patients who definitely feel the impact and are difficult to influence on their quality of life as well as on their families. The importance of opening and involving patient associations together with the professional neurological society in creating clear and accessible programs and schemes for the patient is the key to the success of neurorehabilitation of patients in Romania.”
The active collaboration between patient associations and professional societies at the Romanian level is also reflected in the “National Strategy for the Fight against Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Diseases”, an approach that the European forums present at the ECNR Congress consider as an important step in the fight against these diseases. conditions affecting a large number of Romanians. Therefore, the 7th European Congress of Neurorehabilitation became not only a scientific event, but also a source of hope and inspiration for all present. In this context, we can say that the future of care for patients with neurological diseases seems to be closer to the standards of advanced health care systems.
One of the largest international medical scientific events this year, dedicated to neurorehabilitation and cerebral adaptation processes, the 7th Congress of the European Federation of Neurorehabilitation gathered more than 700 participants in Lyon, France, from August 30 to September 2. neurologists (researchers, teachers, primary care physicians and specialists) from 57 countries on five continents: Africa, America, Asia, Australia and Europe.
The event is organized under the patronage of the European Federation of Neurorehabilitation Societies (EFNR) and the World Federation of Neurorehabilitation Societies (The World Federation for NeuroRehabilitation – WFNR) in partnership with the Multidisciplinary Academy of Neurotraumatology named after Society for the Study of Neuroprotection and Neuroplasticity, European Stroke Organization and World Health Organization.
The European Congress on Neurorehabilitation (ECNR 2023), Lyon, France, was accredited by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME®) with 21 European CME credits (ECMEC®).
European Federation of Neurorehabilitation Societies (EFNR)
EFNR is an international non-profit scientific organization dedicated to research, education, intellectual exchange, advocacy, and philanthropy in the medical field of neurorehabilitation and related fields of expertise. With its permanent headquarters in Vienna, the EFNR has members from all countries of the European Union, to which are added other specialists and scientific researchers in the field of neurology from all over the world.
World Federation of Neurorehabilitation – WFNR
Founded in 1996, the WFNR is a UK multidisciplinary organization open to all neurorehabilitation professionals worldwide. Currently, WFNR has more than 5,000 members worldwide, 38 special groups and branches of 41 national societies from different countries.
About the Society for the Study of Neuroprotection and Neuroplasticity (SSNN)
The Society for the Study of Neuroprotection and Neuroplasticity (SSNN) was founded in 2005 by an international group of doctors and researchers at the initiative of Prof. Dr. Dafin F. Muresanu from the Iuliu Hatcieganu University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Cluj-Napoca, Prof. Dr. Ovidiu Beijenaru and Prof. Dr. Bohdan Popescu from the “Carol Davila” University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest. SSNN is a scientific organization engaged in basic and clinical research, creating a discussion forum for better understanding of endogenous neurobiological processes, and developing pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapeutic strategies in the field of neuroprotection and neuroregeneration.
