According to Sky News, Russia is using social media to try to downplay the influence of Ukraine’s wheat industry, claiming it accounts for less than 5 percent of global wheat exports.

It is also claimed that the proportion is lower due to contamination by “radioactive toxins” from Western weapons.

A 2022 US government report shows that Ukrainian wheat alone is worth 9% of the world market, Ukrainian sunflower oil is 46%, and rapeseed oil is 20%.

The decision follows ongoing negotiations over a Black Sea grain deal that collapsed earlier this year and allowed Ukraine to export crops through its seaports.
