Freddie Mercury’s piano, on which he wrote almost all of his works, starting with “Bohemian Rhapsody,” was sold for 1.742 million pounds (2 million euros) at Sotheby’s auction in London on Wednesday evening, AFP reported.
This amount was lower than the estimate of two to three million pounds (2.3 and 3.5 million euros) published by the auction house. The Yamaha piano was bought by Freddie Mercury for a thousand pounds in 1975.
Also, the manuscript of the famous hit “Bohemian Rhaposdy” by the band Queen, written by Freddie Mercury’s hand, was sold for 1.3 million pounds (1.6 million euros).
These 15 pages, written in pencil and pen on paper with a picture of the now-defunct British Midland Airways airline, reveal the process of creating this song, which could be called the Mongolian Rhapsody.
Sotheby’s published an estimate of £800,000 to £1.2 million (€930,000 to €1.4 million).
