​Sorana Kirstya reached the quarterfinals of the Grand Slam tournament after 14 years and will meet Karolina Mukhova in Flushing Meadows. The Roland Garros finalist was noticed by the Czech media even before the dispute with the number 30 favorite at the US Open.

Soran Kirstea has only two matches left before the US Open 2023 final, and our athlete will first meet in the quarters with Karolina Mukhova, the player ranked 10th in the WTA hierarchy.

The Czech press has already talked about this match, and Muhova was warned about the very good form that Sorana is experiencing this year.

“At the age of 19 (not in 2009), Sorana Kirstea impressed at Roland Garros when she defeated three seeds (Cornet, Wozniacki and Jankovic) and reached the quarterfinals. Between her two best results at major tournaments, the Romanian played 52 Grand Slam tournaments, and only three times did she manage to reach the round of 16 (Australian Open 2017 and 2022, French Open 2021).

Kirstya already hinted that this year could be a revelation, when in the spring she reached the quarterfinals in Indian Wells, and at the next tournament, in Miami, she even reached the semifinals, where only Petra Kvitova stopped.

Although Muhova is 3-1 against the Romanian and recently beat her in Montreal, she should not be too optimistic heading into the match against the WTA’s 30th player. – wrote those from sport.cz.

The quarters presence at Flushing Meadows is also a first for rival Sorana.

In the 1/8 finals, Mukhova beat Xinya Wang (53 WTA) in three sets with a score of 6-3, 5-7, 6-1. During the competition, the Czech also knocked out Storm Hunter (158 WTA), Magdalena Frech (77 WTA) and Taylor Townsend (132 WTA).
