Coach Edi Iordenescu announced the squad for the matches against Israel and Kosovo as part of the qualifying matches for the European Championship 2024. He did not escape criticism, and this time the dissatisfied are the representatives of Sepsi-Sfantu-Gheorghe.

Attila Hadnaghi says Marius Stefanescu, Nicolae Paun and Roland Nitsuli should have been called up to the national team

The Romanian national team will play two matches in the qualifying group of the European Championship 2024 against Israel (September 9) and Kosovo (September 12), and on Saturday Edi Iordenescu announced the list of players called up.

Although he hasn’t played for Glasgow Rangers at all and recently moved to Deportivo Alaves, Yanis Hagi is one of the players on Edi Jordenescu’s list.

The national coach was criticized for his choice. Attila Hadnaghi, Sepsi Sfantu Gheorghe’s sporting director, approached coach Edi Iordenescu, unhappy that players such as Marius Stefanescu, Nicolae Paun or Roland Nitsuli were not called up for the draw.

“No, Marius Stefanescu is not injured, even we were waiting for him to be called up to the national team. I think Sfantu Gheorghe is too far to look at us. I don’t know, I didn’t ask Stef if they called him or not. That seems like a big question mark to me. Even now, when we were very close to being a very good team in Europe.

Apart from Stefanescu, Nicolae Paun and Roland Nitsuli could also leave, and there are other players… Cosmin Matei who is in top form. I don’t know why, we performed and the guys are in very good shape. I don’t know how the selection was made, but I don’t think so. I think that even if we got into the groups, not a single player was selected.” – said Sepsi’s representative, iamsport.ro reports.
